What is NLP?
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. Great! But what does that even mean?
Neuro – the brain/mind
Linguistic – language
Programming – patterns and strategies
Essentially NLP is how we can use the language of the mind to achieve the results we want from life. And it works by using that language to reprogram subconscious thoughts, patterns and beliefs. For example, weightloss has been a struggle for what feels like my whole life. I had tried every program and diet out there; or at least it had felt like it. And usually they worked!
I would lose some weight and stick to the plan…for awhile. But as soon as the program was over or I stopped following “the plan” I was right back where I started. Or worse. And that’s because all those programs and diet plans and mail order meal kits were doing was changing a surface level behavior.
And that’s how NLP is different! For anything, not just health and weightloss. Because NLP uses the language of your mind to reprogram your beliefs. And when your beliefs change, your behaviors begin to shift. And as your behaviors shift and start to embody the person you are becoming, you start to become that person.
But how do you get to a point where you can be open to receiving those shifts?
It’s when you can learn to be at cause for everything in your life. This doesn’t mean you’re at fault for things that have happened to you. What it does mean is that you can take the responsibility for your own growth, learning and healing.
When you take that responsibility, you feel empowered. Empowered to know that you have the power within yourself right now to change your life. Sounds cheesy I know. And it’s also very true. Using NLP allows you to create change on a subconscious level. You dig into things like limiting beliefs, stuck emotions and loops to break those patterns.
It’s not easy but it was worth it.
